Which is better to give this special friend for valentine's day!?
Well my best friend and I now go to the same uni but live quite far away from each other.
Now, I only see her once or twice a week for an 1 hour or 2.

Last year I gave when we were still seniors in high school, I gave her as small box of chocolate.
Of course I do like this girl very much and would like to hint that I still do through this, but
I am having trouble deciding what to get her.

I have already decided on a heart shaped chocolate box and possibly a cute little stuffed animal
but I want to include something more.
I was thinking many a flower (would alot be over doing it??)

The only reason I think that way is because she may not like me, at least not in the way of being a bf.
hmm..
a flower or many, and which type?
are roses too much of a staple…?

And a Question for the girls:
Say you have a good friend but you do not like him or see him as a possible bf,
Would you be happy receiving a gift from that person on Valentine’s day?

i think if you guys are just friends, you might not want to get her such romantic gifts.. it will make her feel awkward.

theres an episode in the office (sorry for quoting tv shows), where jim gets pam in secret santa, and hes in the same position as you.. just a friend, and gets her a tea set she knew she wanted and filled them with a whole bunch of inside jokes they had. and old picture of him that made her laugh, etc.

what i would do is find out something that she really wants, and since you guys went to high school together, find some memories you had there and write them down for her. or go through old year books and scan your pictures and hers and make a funny collage out of them. something that will make her laugh, but still let her know how much you care and how much thought you put into this.

if this seems too over the top for you, make her a cd with her favourite songs and some of yours and make the cover of it a collage of pictures of you two. tell her you made it so she ould always think of ou when you’re apart.

please answer mine :)

Please help me… Why are people such inconsiderate jerks even family? I should say especially family…?
I will try to shorten this. I do anything my mom need from paperwork to doctors. and recently due to my persistence we found out she has a total blockage in her main artery to her left leg so today was surgery day. I have six other siblings and I am the youngest. Well five of the six were there. My brother is one of those guys who likes anyting with a hole AKA a shovinistic pig! And he was talking about his many women and how they go back with thier abusive ex boyfriends and dump him. And I hear this stuff over and over from him. So I said he just likes and is attracted to that kind of girl/ drama. And he comes back and throws in my face about an incidentwhichh happened 5 years ago. I broke it off with an emotionally abusive guy and he was so pissed that the psycho came back with vengeances. Even though he was sleeping with a friend of mine. He assaulted me and I had to be rushed to the hospital and came with in millimeters of killing me and left me with 47 stitches on my face. A few months later I met an incredible man and he helped me through the emotional roller-coaster I was on. He is now my husband and best friend and most of all we are excited to say we are expecting in April:) So I definitely moved on and started a whole new chapter in my life. But it really bothers me that my own brother has brought this up and thrown it in my face twice now. He told me that I have no room to talk and that I was in an abusive relationship and so I am just as stupid as all the girls he meets. It bothers me that I try to be the best I can be and live my life because I almost didn’t have it and all he can bring up is this awe-full moment in my life. I know all you are going to say not to let other people bother me but this is not just anyone it is my family, my brother, how can he bring up such a hurtfull thing and feel nothing about it? It really makes me feel like crap and I don’t even want to consider him family anymore:(

you need to think .. how could you solve all of this.. be smart and think of strategies to deal ..and youre story was long lol

First, I’m so sorry about your abusive ex! Wow you are so lucky you are alive!

It is not right for your brother to bring up your past. It was not your fault…you dumped the guy to get away from him and he came after you. Just ignore him and tell him this is none of your business so please stop.

because they can, all of my famly hates me, even my parents, brothers, cousins, ect. when ever they have partys im always in the car because if i get down there probobly gonna start messing with me, hitting me,put me down, and ive asked them all "why?" they said "because we can!!!" and from that point on ive compleatly abandond them. and ever since i havent had problems with feeling bad because them, honestly, im not gonna regret abandoning them later on in life , and now im practicly on my own, but i havent regreted it, i say… what do you need your brother for? you got an awsome man! so forget him later on in life when he trys talking to you, dont pick up the phone, just ignore his calls. so all i say is forget about him!
chevalier | Feb 10, 2010

Your brother sounds like a douche. I’m glad I have a great brother, but the rest of my family sounds just like yours. Do what I do, ignore them, don’t even talk to them unless it’s small talk and don’t get into their business so they won’t get into yours. But we all know that doesn’t work most of the time, especially when dealing with insensitive idiots. So what I do now is just rely on my hubby that loves me and would never hurt me in that way. I don’t talk enough with my family for them to bring up things that will make me feel bad. Honestly, it’s:
"how’s your life?"
"fine. I saw a movie last weekend, it was good"
"oh, that’s nice."
"yeah."
Usually I find that when you try to help them out or comment on their life is when they lash out and respond with an "oh yeah? well YOU blah blah blah"
Holding a grudge is never good but just remember that if they don’t know much about your life, they can’t bring up anything but the past. And you can ignore the conversations that will lead to something bad about you.

How can I get over the fear of thunderstorms and tornadoes?
I am 22 years old and I am terrified of thunderstorms, I haven’t ever been in any tornadoes yet and I hope that I wont be but anyways whenever there is a thunderstorm or even just in the summer time when it rains outside I always run to the tv to check the weather if it says that there is a severe thunderstorm warning or watch I freak out, I get so nervous and scared for some reason I get really shakey and stuff. There has only been like one time when we had a tornadoe warning and I panicked so bad I didnt know what to do I felt like my world was going to come crashing down on me or something, luckly it was just a bad thunderstorm and not a tornadoe. But can someone please give me some advice on how I can get rid of this fear its terrible when I see or hear that there is a storm coming I dont even wanna go anywhere because I am so afraid that its going to turn into a toenadoe and that I will not be able to get to shelter in time, or what if I dont have a basement or anything to go to what am I supposed to do?? If there is someone that has this same fear or knows someone that does can you give me some advice on how to get over this fear once and for all

Same fear!
I don’t know how to stop it, it’s an anxiety thing. But I do know how I distract myself.

I like to watch movies because it sort of puts me in an imaginary world, you know? You start to forget about the weather outside.

I also remind myself that the news usually exaggerates, and it is never nearly as bad as they say it will be.

Also going shopping helps a bunch, because when you are in a store you can’t even tell what the weather is like outside. Plus you are distracted by all the sales! :)

And another thing I remind myself is that we are living in an extremely fortunate environment. We have big sturdy homes, built for anything. AND, if the news did happen to give us a tornado warning, they usually give us advice and tips.

Also, if you were out and about during a storm, there are stores EVERYWHERE that would have no problem letting you hid out in there until the weather calms down or passes by.

Those stories you hear about terrible storms and devastated people are in places where there is very little protection, shelter and resources.

You’re safe, trust me:)

I know you’re not going to want to hear this but… You’re never going to get over this fear. A lot of good people die everyday and there’s not a damn thing you can do about it. The best thing to do is get on with your life and try not to think about it.

Why isn't the burden of proof increased for murder cases?
You always hear about those cases in which an innocent person sat in jail for 20-40 years because they were falsely convicted. A lot of false convictions took place in cases where the prosecutor only had circumstantial evidence. Why don’t legislatures respond to the problem by increasing the burden of proof for criminal cases (especially murder cases)? It would be very beneficial if statutory law required the following for a murder conviction:

-Body of victim (to make sure the person is actually dead and didn’t run off to another state)
-DNA evidence that links suspect to crime scene (to make sure it is the accused person and not a look-alike)
-2 Witnesses (w/ crime free background) who saw the crime and provide matching accounts
-Surveillance footage that shows the crime happening
-Witness testimony that the the event was a crime and not self defense

Why don’t state legislatures impose these requirements on prosecutors seeking criminal convictions? IMO, there are too many of these BS legal cases where an over-zealous prosecutor is making accusations that he cannot back up.

That’s a great point.

That way, I could easily murder you and get away with it scot-free.

All I would have to do is either make sure there were no witnesses (or murder them also) or cameras rolling!

I could even walk away from the crime scene covered in your blood and carrying a gun that matched bullets found in your body, but as long as nobody actually saw me murder you or has any film footage, my state prosecutor wouldn’t have a case!

Have you ever considered running for public office?
$0.02 RETURNS | Feb 03, 2010

Body of the victim is almost always needed.

DNA- CSI isn’t real. There isn’t always DNA available.
2 Witnesses and video: So if I want to kill you and get away with it all I have to do is make sure that we are alone and there isn’t a camera handy.

Great.
WRG | Feb 03, 2010

With your ludicrous requirements, no one would ever be convicted of murder.

DNA is a good thing, however, there are many cases where there is no DNA evidence. In other cases, such as a husband killing his wife in the home, the suspect’s DNA will be all over everything anyway. Evidence has to have "probative value", meaning it helps prove some aspect of the case, or disprove that same aspect. So the husband’s DNA is found in the house… it proves nothing.

Eye witnesses are the least reliable evidence in trial, for any crime. You would do good to find two persons that would give the same story about the TV show they both watched last night, let alone a description of a suspect.

For all the screaming about too many video cameras invading our lives, only a very small percentage of real estate is covered. Unless the suspect video tapes the crime themselves (it has been done!) the odds are actually small that anything was caught on video.
Caoedhen | Feb 03, 2010

Great ideas. What we have now works.

A Defense attorney needs to convince one juror of reasonable doubt. A hung jury can be as good as an acquittal. The D.A. needs to convince 12 jurors of guilt beyond a reasonable doubt. Is anyone suggesting we make it 11 out of 12 or 10 out of 12 on murder cases?

As for wrongfully convicted people, how many people claim innocence before there was DNA, get their DNA tested and BOOM their DNA matches the DNA found at the crime scene? That doesn’t make the news and it happens more than you think.

Now here is what I perceive as unfair. The D.A. has tremendous resources available to prosecute people accused of crimes. The average defendant whether on legal aid or paying it out of his or her own pocket can’t match the D.A.’s resources. Very wealthy defendants can put up the money needed to fight in court. It is not a level playing field for all. That is unfortunate.

Specifically getting to your points…

People are creatures of habit and we all need money to live. If someone vanishes and their credit cards, debit cards and bank accounts have zero activity after they vanish, then that is a good indicator they are no longer alive. Vanishing is not a normal habit for anyone.

The rest of your points are too burdensome. IF all of them were in play then very few people would ever be prosecuted for murder. Very few murderers have witnesses let alone the kind you want. Do you want an America with spy cameras everywhere? That is what your plan would require. Some crimes have no witnesses. That’s just how it goes. Witnesses are not a good thing if you are a criminal.

Gentlemen prefer blondes?Indeed?
Last weekend I decided to go blonde this halloween. Even though I painted myself green (and my eyebrows as the same color as my wig) and was pretty overdressed compared to many chicks in the danceclub; I noticed how many people actually wanted to talk to me. Even the girls who are ‘fashionable’, facially immaculate and untouchable actually grinned and complimented the costume; they even started conversations with me randomly. As for the guys, quite a few sat up to notice.
It was seriously, a bizarre world where you feel like you’re really being watched. I wasn’t the only green person, admittedly; and we got quite a few bikini-clad zombies to carry away the attention from everyone else; but it seriously felt different from the way people interacted with you. It actually felt like, scarily, being in the centre of attention.

Has anyone ever gone through this before? How have the fair-haired felt living a life like this?

It’s time to face the facts, ma’am. You are actually a hottie, and not the plain or somewhat unattractive person you always assume you are. We can all see you avatar and we all know you are quite definitely an attractive woman.

But because you think less of yourself (in this one sense) you probably give off an unapproachable vibe due to self-consciousness. Then the other day you are done up with green skin and blonde hair and you do not feel at all inhibited at all. It’s like you are someone else. So you feel on a level playing field with everyone (except the bikini zombies apparently) and all of a sudden you are getting attention. So maybe it was your hair, or maybe there was a personality change that was in effect at the same time?

Well, I’d never recommend this in real life but maybe it would work for you. Why not try being a blonde for awhile? If you think it makes a difference that’s all that matters.

I dunno b/c haha LOL! | Nov 02, 2009

Maybe its nothing to do with the hair but your face.
Its a good face.
BratRich | Nov 02, 2009

BratRich is right. I don’t see how changing your hair color would actually improve your chances of getting hit on. You already look alright by default.

Huh…TDs for saying you look good and that you don’t have to change a thing?…
Know It All | Nov 02, 2009

I’ve been basically every color in the book.

I went temporary crayon red for Halloween this year, but usually have dark brown hair.
<—–

I have noticed more attention from men when I was a blonde versus anything else. I suspect it might have something to do with the fact that blond is brighter, and commands more attention anyway–regardless of how attractive it or you are. Not sure though. There are of course, some beautiful blonde ladies who are attractive in spite of their haircolor, as there are everyone else of any haircolor. That’s just been my experience.

Edit: Aw, thank you, DE. :)
A Clockwork Apple | Nov 02, 2009

Because blondes are rarer, they draw more attention. The same goes for redheads.

Personally, I love my brown hair. I went wild with pink for a few months, and now it’s faded to blonde (which a lot of people like on me), but I will be happy to be a brunette again :)
Mudkip | Nov 02, 2009

I think dark hair is somewhat more intimidating and less approachable. That’s generalization though and my personal opinion. Don’t forget, it was Halloween, you dressed up as a "fun" person, probably more "fun" looking than you normally would look. I doubt it had anything to do with hair colour.

If I saw a friendly person around, I wouldn’t really care to talk to them, until probably a Halloween party and they’re dressed as Barack Obama… I’ll probably feel more compelled to talk to them coz it makes them seem more fun.
potato-brain | Nov 02, 2009

Or it could be blonds prefer gentlemen?

Or ladies prefer blond gentlemen?

I think the whole package, esp. the face, is more important. e.g. can Britney Spear/ Nicole Kidman blond match against Kate Beckinsale brunet or (young)Liz Talor & Joan Colin black raven hair? It’s a VERY tough call.
Anna Kournikova | Nov 02, 2009

I tried blonde high lights, and it didn’t work out for me…It made me look "washed out" and I just look better with dark hair, because the rest of my features…eyes, skin tone…matches better with the dark hair.

Clockwork…I think because of having blue eyes would probably look great in any hair color…btw… I love the red.

"Blond hair is unique in that it changes dramatically with age. Typically, young girls with light blond hair become women with brown hair. Thus, men who prefer to mate with blond women are unconsciously attempting to mate with younger (and hence, on average, healthier and more fecund) women. It is no coincidence that blond hair evolved in Scandinavia and northern Europe, probably as an alternative means for women to advertise their youth, as their bodies were concealed under heavy clothing." http://richarddawkins.net/article,1390,T en-Politically-Incorrect-Truths-About-Hu man-Nature,Alan-S-Miller-PhD-Satoshi-Kan azawa-PhD

Confused with my astral projection experience?
I just literally woke up and wanted to ask this question right away before i forgot everything. I had asked a question on here once before about my half awake dreams and then how they turn into vibrations and blah blah blah and how it’s all linked into astral projection without me even really trying to do it. Well today is a crappy day (new england) so I’ve been pretty much sleeping all day. The thing is I haven’t had any caffeine yet so I can usually just lay back down and fall into a semi sleep when I’ve been well rested and not that tired. This kind of sleep is weird because it usually starts off with me not actually falling into sleep but falling into a kind of "peacefullness". My body goes almost numb and it’s hard for me to feel a pulse. When I finally convince myself it’s alright I start to have half awake dreams. Being able to dream about anything, like my mind is clear because I don’t actually need the rest. But in these dreams I always make weird moving motions, almost like loosening up motions such as squirming around and jerking back and forth lol sorry i have no other way to explain it, They’re not painful, they actually help me feel good. After that I knew I was still half awake so I told myself "imagine I’m floating out of my body". So immediately I could see my tv in front of my bed but i was still in a "trance". All of a sudden I heard vibrating electric noises, like an electric humming. And saw electric pulses around my body and then I actually felt my body lifting off the bed. I struggled a bit and kept trying to make myself float a little. I didn’t have a complete experience but it was amazing. Please any other experiences with astral projection I’m so intrigued. No rude comments. If you don’t believe in it then that’s fine, but I’m only looking for people who are serious on answering this.

Don’t let your conscious, doubting mind convince you that you are confused. You obviously have had these extraordinary experiences often enough that you are sure that it is happening; you seem to be well-grounded enough to take it a step further into actual astral travel. You may have a problem with images, though; when you want to get across astral distances, focus on things like the fact that you could see your TV screen will detract from your ability to open this mental process. You don’t have to feel like this is something from the twilight zone, it is the science of wireless signals and remote viewing and telepathy. Quantum mechanics will at least enable scientists to formulate a theory on this, as well as other extra-sensory neural processes, in the not-too-distant future.

One warning: if you feel a ‘push’ towards your ‘body’ (the conscious mind is agitated) then allow your mind to return, as there could be a physical distress. Likewise, if you are conscious or in a lucid dreamstate (as you have described above) and you feel a ‘pulling’ towards something that does not come from WITHIN you, end the session. There could be problems with the spiritual/astral equivalent of wire-tapping or signal disruptions which could damage your brain.

lovechild | Jan 25, 2010

Be very careful with this type of experimentation. There is a risk that the silver cord, which keep your soul connected to your body, will sever itself when it experiences the freedom of existence without a body.I have had several out of body experiences ( clinical death twice before turning 21 and others from Astral Projection ) and I am still extremely cautious even when I meditate.
Wolverpap | Jan 25, 2010

Here’s an easy way to test if you’re actually astral projecting. Get someone to sit in another room where you can’t see them with a pair of dice. Have them roll the dice while you’re ‘projecting’ and project yourself into the other room to read the dice. Success? Great! You’re the first person EVER who could prove astral projection is real! No success? It’s all in your imagination.
eri | Jan 25, 2010

We all astrally project but not all do it consciously. You are one of those few who maintain awareness of your connection with your physical body. You can actually go places and planes by astral projection but be sure that you are emotionally and mentally fit to be able to handle the rigors of astral travel. There are dangers awaiting those who arent strong. They can lose control of their physical body to some earthbound spirit. This happens when the silver cord is severed due to drug use, drunkenness, depression, resentment, and a host of other reasons. There are ways to develop your projection powers – meditation (rajah would be a reliable method), positive surroundings and a vegetarian diet (if you are that serious).

Would you read this? Also please give me ideas.?
This is a series I’m writing. Please give feed backs and ideas and tell me if you would read it.

The setting is in space and there are civilizations on comets. It starts out with The leader of jeremy’s(main charactar) tells jeremy about a quest where he has to travel through 5 galaxies(1 a book) and get a crystal from each one to save the civilizations defenses. He gives Jeremy a choice and he decides to go with his two friends. They travel on a spaceship through fire, ice, bug, water, and mutant to get a crystal from each one.

Please help!

It sounds like a good solid base for a plot and of the series is kept simple it could be pulled off really well. My advice would be to go to either extreme: either make it quite childlike and slightly predictable or approach it with a much more epic, deeper novel mind. My point is that you want to keep a plot like this consistent in order for it to be sucessfull. The settings for each planet have potential and overall it sounds like a great idea, though maybe reconsider making the man character’s name a little more outlandish- he lives in space remember! Good luck and I hope I helped =)

It sounds like an interesting concept, but it seems like one of those stories where it would be difficult to describe things clearly. Effectively describe each planet; make each one feel alien. Developing the characters well is also a sure way to make readers want to believe these worlds are real. But it sounds like you need to develop your plot line a bit more. You have the general overview of it, but make sure you know what happens on each planet and where the climax is.
Good luck. :)

to be honest it sounds like every other space book.
for it to be a hit, you’d have to use really good descriptions to make it more exciting to read.

Of course it sounds interesting. Think about characters a lot is the advice I can give you. A book is only as good as its characters. Make the reason why he needs to find the crystals something very important. Yes saving the civilizations is important. Make your character round and dynamic, which means he/she learns about themselves through their journey. EX: Han Solo, his name is Solo. He only cares for himself and in the end he realizes what it means to not be alone and have a true relationship

No, it’s not.

Well, okay, I don’t admit knowing that, but RT gives it a 22/100 so it’s probably pretty awful.

I’d bid a penny more so $2.26. It is a $5 movie.
